when a baby tries new foods, could a rash appear around his face in reaction?
yesterday my 7 1/2 month baby boy was given cool whipped cream by his grandma. he went to sleep for about 30 mins and woke up with blemishe/ rash on his cheeks! could that be because of the new food? its kinda been an argument. cos then she tried feeding him cherries from cherrie pie, and i got upset about it. please answer this.
Yes, it could definitely be a food allergy or intolerance. My baby is 6 months old and has various food allergies. She got a rash around her mouth and her lower lip started bleeding within an hour of having soy, and she got a bumpy rash on her chin and cheeks after having rice cereal. Dairy (even dairy proteins in breastmilk) caused projectile vomiting and extreme fussiness. Fortunately, most babies outgrow these kinds of allergies fairly quickly. I can sympathize with the difficulty of getting other people to respect your wishes on this, though - my uncle fed my baby a taste of cherry cola yesterday, and he knows all the problems she's had with allergies! It was a well-meaning gesture, and of course the baby liked it. But even a little bit can cause a rash or vomiting if the baby's allergic to it!
If his grandma has a hard time accepting your view, you could always blame it on your pediatrician and say that the doctor says a baby shouldn't have processed foods at this age. That might not stop her from wanting to feed him other things, but it should rule out highly processed foods that have lots of chemical and dyes in them, like cool whip and canned pie filling.
