how do you clean a soon-to-be fish tank that is GROSS?
me and my friend got 2 baby goldfish and FOR NOW we are putting them in a 20 gallon. i know we need a bigger on, but for now..they are only babies. we need to clean it, it used to be a turtle tank, and it has scum, and dirty rocks which probably have dried remains of turtle poo within. i told my friend to soak it tonight, and we will get at it tomorrow with hot water. However, i was ondering if organic soap, all natural ingredients, and no chemiclas would be ok? any other ideas as to how to clean it? also, a side question, how do you check levels of ammonia?
hello. as you already know a 20 gallon tank will not be big enough for 2 goldfish for very long.
if you can afford to, buy a 50 gallon tank, no smaller. you may be able to find one cheaply secondhand.
you need a filtration system for goldfish. a good petshop will give you the advice and equipment to maintain the aquarium properly. goldfish will live for 6 to 7 years or even much longer if well cared for.
it is worthwhile to invest in the proper equipment. it is essential to maintain the water properly, otherwise your fish will get sick and not live very long.
please try to find a decent sized tank with all the required equipment.
