Using butter in homemade baby food?
We've had a good start at introducing solid foods to our 20-week-old daughter (who seems to relish the new flavors and gobbles up whatever we give her), and currently use only organic baby food. While the quality of the food is good, I'd still like to make my own at least part of the time in order to save on money and so that she has fresh produce. Quite a few of the recipes I've seen recommend adding a pat of butter to the puree- is this really necessary? I do understand that babies need fat to help brain development, but surely this can come from her milk feeds. Am I missing something? Also, I've seen differing advice on when to add meat to the baby's diet- some say now, others say not until 7-8 months. Any advice? Thanks very much in advance.
I never added butter to purees, definitely no need to, simply the veggie/fruit and water (I would usually try and use the water the veggie/fruit was cooked in).
I didn't use butter on anything for him until after 6 months and not with the purees, once he started eating regular food I used a little unsalted butter, like if I made baked cinnamon carrots I used some butter and nutmeg on them.
I started letting my son have meat around 6.5 months (fish, ground turkey, etc)
Where are you getting the recipes that call for butter? I can't imagine they are talking about purees for babies.
