What should I plant in my small Michigan garden this spring to make our own baby food ????
My wife is due with our first child on May 11th (Mothers Day!!!) We have a nice garden every year . . . but this year we want to plant things to make our own organic Baby food. Looking for ideas from people who have done it.
Yes, have done it in the past and could do it now if someone asked. You can grow beets, carrots, sweet potatoes,spinach, peas, tomatoes (for when a little older) green beans, blueberries, asparagus, acorn squash. You can cook and puree most of the vegetables in a blender making it quite smooth. You can make these foods in quantities by buying and using pressure canner for preserving quantities of these purees. You can also get a vacuum seal seal-a-meal and freeze these yummy baby foods. Michigan has many local farms that grow organic. If you cant grow enough yourself, get a list of the farms in your area, purchase in bulk, preserve or freeze. I wont eat store bought food anymore. Stores do not have to post if a fruit or vegetable is genetically altered or the pesticides used to grow. I also buy my meat in bulk from the local farms. There are many Amish and Menonite farms in the area that raise meat in a natural organic environment. I also live in Michigan and we are so lucky that we have all these farms, orchards, and organic farmers. You can start your baby off right from the get go with your own produce or from our many organic farmers.
