Constipated 6 month old baby?
My daughter is 6 months old and I have just had to start to give her soley formula milk as breast milk dried up after a stressful personal incident. She isn't weaned yet as was 4weeks early and health visitor wants me to wait until after xmas. I have been giving her organic prune juice after soaking them but the problem keeps arising. i do give her a little water occasionally but need some help please

I have tried pumping before each feed and produce 2 drops from each breast of milk so please don't suggest I put her back on the breast as she screams in frustration as there is no milk there
Unless your baby is very premature or has specific health problems, I can;t see why the health visitor is asking you to wait before solids. Is baby not fussing and needing some food at this age? 4 weeks early is not hugely premature -was she very small? 3 weeks early is counted as being on time. A few years ago we were all advised to wean babies at 4 months, in fact my oldest son (now 10 and with no problems!) was weaned at 10 weeks as the health visitor said he needed some food!
I would get a second opinion and try introducing a bit of fruit and veg, a few spoons a day with plenty of fluids could provide what she needs to overcome the constipation.
Apple and pear puree is helpful and you can usually find puree with prunes in too,. Grapes are also great. Baby rice can make comstipation worse. Prune juice is not as good as the prune itself as the fibre is in the skin. Sucking on a prune could be useful, as could massaging baby's tummy and having warm baths.
You've done well to give baby breast milk this long, please don't let people make you feel guilty about stopping. The most important thing is you are Ok to look after your baby and give her lots of love, which is more important than a stressed mum trying to get her breast milk up again. My milk stopped completely after being hospitalised for gastroenteritis when my daughter was a baby, and as I was trying to recover, I simply couldn;t get it going again either.
